Constructed of bronze in the shape of a five pointed star, on a fixed rectangular suspension from its ribbon with a functional horizontal pinback assembly, the obverse with a smaller central silver five pointed star surrounded by sun rays, within a laurel wreath, the reverse inscribed For Gallantry in Action in capital letters, and named Albert B. Rickert equally in capital letters, otherwise unmarked, measuring 36. 0 mm
