An American Sunrise Nunavut The establishment of day schoolsAn American Sunrise by Jo Harjo, Mvskoke, and first Native American Poet Laureate of the United States, is an anthology of poetry informed by her history and connection to the land. Mvskoke people were forcibly removed from their original lands east of the Mississippi to Indian Territory, now part of Oklahoma. Jo Harjo returns to these lands and opens up a dialogue with history through her personal life stories through poems.
