This is a lovely Penobscot (Native New England) splint ash and sweetgrass basket woven around a glass jar to serve as a vase

rather reminding one

too--and a good sized one at 70 1/2" x 40 1/4" (so almost 6 x  3 1/2 feet)

this is just an amazing object to hold in your hand

In the corner, in perfect cursive, is painted Epinal, a city in Northeastern France. The proportions of the box are terrific too, with these great rounded corners, plus a key hole on the front though there is no longer
