SOLD Wallie Schang Yank's Catcher Season 1921 Graphite Drawing on Board man with wheelbarrow I’m pretty sure this wasI love the game of baseball, and everything about this drawing, most of all the interplay between the lines of Schang's fingers and the pattern of stitching on the baseball in his throwing hand. His pads and shin guards and glove are all pretty great too, plus facial expression that looks quintessentially a catcher's to me. Surely done by a baseball obsessed adolescent boy in 1921, who it gives me pleasure to imagine drawing all his favorite Yankees.
