There is a sticker note on the bottom of this lovely treen box that describes it as American

7" tall x 1 1/2" wide x 7/8" deep

There is some discoloration to the brown paint on the back side and one clip to the inside of one hoof

I think the age is right, but they look to me to have been sewn of oil cloth, and I think its possible these were made as carnival knock down balls. In any case, I think they're quite beautiful things, with nicely irregular hand stitching in blue thread, and great all
