I really like the combination of strong straight lines on the black-painted structure with the unpainted zig zag chip-carved decoration inside and in between

though I do think it is fairly old and might date to around the same time (1929)

it is a piece with a strong but nuanced presence

(Aksum was an ancient Ethiopian kingdom that spanned what are now Eritrea, northern Ethiopia, much of eastern Sudan and southern eastern Yemen.)
