I think this is just a gem of a painting—quintessentially mid-century and really an elegant little piece

And indeed it would have been--traditionally used in a wedding ceremony

" and then on the underside of the box are tiny carved dots representing a couple of double sixes

and I'm always especially happy to find the colored ones

but the kindly looking donkey upon which he is perched seems much more interested in his little dog friend than in turning around to help

I believe it is safe to categorize this one as a sampler, with the LAO who initialed it clearly practicing her needlepoint skills across three vertical spans of what I read as towers of flowers, rising from the three urns opening up along the bottom.
