This is a phenomenal M1858 Bullseye canteen whose use spreads across the U. S. Civil War, the Indian Wars, and the Spanish American War, which is when it was likely most recently used. It has its original Rock Island Arsenal marked leather strap which is still very pliable. The front of the canteen is marked 1 N. C. for the 1st North Carolina Infantry Regiment, which conducted guard duty in Cuba at the end of the
